Don't just get a machine given it looks cool in the camera store, or perhaps in the catalog. I could purchase a whole new camera system - lenses included - with the money I've used on professional photography equipment that I've used just once. Or never used whatsoever! While it's true that most of the time top level equipment can make creating our photos easier...exactly the same photos normally can be done with stuff we have lying around! The true secret to mastering the digital camera and having stunning photos is not more and more equipment. It's understanding how to make the most beyond what we currently have taking place! For example...after our camera and lenses, the biggest part of professional photography equipment most photographers follow can be a studio lighting system. After you have studied photography for a time, we understand that a lot of photos will need no less than a 3 light setup. So we go out to purchase 3 studio lights. First thing we view is... honest ones cost an arm along with a leg! We do not have a whole lot of! And then we buy cheaper, lower than optimal lights. For as long as we own our cheap studio lights, look for they are inefficient as well as a hassle to use. We can't even mention repair bills! Our work suffers so we will never be really able to dig up our creative visions in to the camera. But (we rationalize) we didn't have much cash, and three in the cheap lights cost comparable amount as only one in the better lights. Here's where understanding how to master your products are where the pros are separated from your "someday I'm gonnas..." Find the One top quality light (or any other part of photo equipment) and extremely figure out how to utilize it. Then study the techniques for using reflectors (you may make them yourself for close to nothing). A reflector bouncing light into the subject - IS - an easy! I once saw a relevant video created by the late Dean Collins where he used one studio light and with the judicious use of reflectors he might create a 5 LIGHT setup! And there is no one who wouldn't call him up an expert photographer! So, when you spend a bunch of money on professional photography equipment, learn how to master what you already have (or will make), then if you do buy, only buy the right. It's going to stay longer, give you fewer headaches and cost less ultimately.
